Businesses & the Recruitment Process

When an employee resigns, or a new position becomes available it can be quite a stressful time for managers. They are normally already stretched with their current workload and now they have the added pressure of recruiting for the position which will include posting and advert, discussing the role with recruitment agencies, shortlisting applications and holding interviews, all of which can be extremely time consuming.

Because of this sometimes employers can tend to half-heartedly recruit for roles or change their minds halfway through the recruitment process; which can be frustrating for internal staff and candidates.  To help businesses refine their recruitment process the below tips will help recruiting managers before embarking on the process of hiring into their business;

  1. What does a quality candidate look like to you?

Businesses tend to look for the ‘perfect’ candidate, but this can result in the recruitment process taking longer than expected and can also result in other employees within the business taking on additional work. Employers need to decide what a quality candidate looks like; this could be through key skills and attributes or relevant experience that the person needs to be successful in the role.

Tip is don’t wait for perfection- do interview good quality candidates!

  1. What are you willing to pay for the role?

It is important that organisations know the value of the role within the company. Decide the salary range for the role and ensure you are consistent with this through the whole process. Sometimes businesses can end up paying more through negotiations at the offer stage.

  1. Who are the key stakeholders in the recruitment process?

In any business there are various people that want to be involved within the recruitment and selection process. From the start it is important for everyone to agree what they are looking for; it is essential that these stakeholders get to meet all the candidates, so the ultimate hiring decision is consistent and fair.
