Case study: Increasing profitability by enhancing the employee experience

This is the story of how HR Star helped a local business to create a highly engaged team and increase its profitability by 9% year-on-year.

In 2021, HR Star started working with a PR and communications agency to achieve three things: enhance the company structure to facilitate growth and support individual development, build on the core team and increase efficiency with ways of working.

Always up for a challenge, and passionate about showing the positive impact that the right people processes in place can have on a company’s growth, our team quickly implemented a proactive HR approach to transform a company in crisis into a ‘best place to work’ environment.

Creating and implementing an induction handbook, updating the company’s new starter process, providing personal development plans, redesigning 1-2-1s – these are just some of the things that our team delivered to help the agency achieve its goals.

Essential to facilitating individual development, HR Star also provided training focused on upskilling the team as well as confidence coaching. The introduction of learning zones to team meetings also helped to facilitate knowledge and skill sharing internally.

To build on the core team, HR Star also provided recruitment support and management through Star Search: a fresh approach to talent sourcing and employee onboarding, which makes it easier than ever for businesses to find the right candidates.

The result? A highly engaged team and profitability increased by 9% year-on-year. What’s more, the agency has made two promotions, and grown with two new account managers and an operations manager – also reducing its reliance on freelancers due to having a strong core team.

The agency now has a more collaborative culture as well, and an improved atmosphere where it’s ok to make mistakes. Plus, a new wellbeing allowance, and regular mentoring and team days – all supporting an improved employee experience.

The work is far from over, however.

HR Star is continuing to work with the agency to drive further business growth. Recognising the benefits of proactive HR, the agency has asked HR Star to support with embedding its company values into its people processes, and to introduce value-based awards and more team celebrations.
